What Is Crown Lengthening?

It may be necessary to remove a bit of bone and gum tissue when decay occurs below the gumline. Removal may be necessary before a new crown can be made.
Crown lengthening procedures are both restoring your tooth and for the cosmetic appearance of your gum line. Crown lengthening is done prior to restoring broken or severely decayed teeth. A crown lengthening procedure exposes more of the tooth by adjusting the gum and bone level, allow the tooth to be restored.
Crown lengthening is also done in the case of a ‘gummy’ smile, or where the teeth appear short. In a lot of cases, the teeth are actually of normal size but excess gum tissue may be covering them. Gum and bone tissure are reshaped in the procdure to expose more of the natural tooth.
